Classroom & Field Trainers
CSG’s instructors have extensive experience in building technologies, energy efficiency and residential construction. Each one brings a real world, common sense approach to teaching. Our curriculum designers and online learning developers use adult-learning theory and engaging media formats.
Steven Courville, Senior Trainer
Joining CSG in 2006, Steven Courville has over 20 years of experience in residential building science, systems and inspections. He educated students, organizations and associates on building performance for 15 years in New York State and now provides basic and advanced building science training and develops curricula across the country. Steve worked to deliver New York ENERGY STAR Labeled Homes, Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, and related programs. Earlier, he was at ICF Consulting and has also been a Building Science Instructor for OCM-BOCES. Prior to that he owned Adirondack Home & Energy Inspection Services for eight years, and worked for Saratoga County and Washington County Economic Opportunity Councils. Steve holds BPI certifications in Building Analyst, Envelope Professional, Heating Professional, and AC/Heat Pump Professional. He is a BPI test proctor and RESNET Certified Rater.
Richard Derikart, Senior Trainer
Providing leadership and training expertise for CSG since 2004, Rick Derikart has educated builders, contractors, and technical staff about building performance for eight years and prior to that, he also taught secondary school subjects. His earlier career was as a Programmer/Analyst and Information Systems Manager for Albany International Corp. Rick holds BPI certifications in Building Analyst, Envelope Professional, Heating Professional, Multifamily Building Analyst Professional, and AC/Heat Pump Professional. He is a BPI test proctor and RESNET Certified Rater. He also holds EPA 608 Level I and II and IR Thermography Level I credentials. Additionally, Rick has an MBA in Finance from Russell Sage College.
Hap Haven, Trainer
Hap Haven has personally trained over 1,000 contractors for their BPI certifications. He is a national leader in the field of energy education for more than 30 years who joined CSG in 2008. Hap serves as a national trainer and proctor, as well as providing training design and implementation. He is the founder and president of US Green Home, Inc.® and SunHaven Solar and Home Performance Testing, and has extensive energy efficiency background and multiple credentials ranging from PV installation to EPA Lead Renovator. Hap is a BPI certified Building Analyst, Envelope Professional and Heating Specialist Trainer, as well as a Flir Corporation certified Home Performance Thermographer. In 2011 he was honored with induction into the Building Performance Industry Hall of Fame.
